Managing Financial Costs

Unless you’re one of the highly fortunate few, we all need to be conscious of the financial costs for care.  We appreciate and respect your decision in invest in care for yourself, your children or other loved ones.  Brain health services can result in improved functioning in many parts of your life and financial considerations should not be an obstacle to obtaining these important health services.  We are sensitive to the fact, though, that they can be expensive and different people have different needs in fulfilling their financial obligations.  To help with these, we have put together a range of options for you to consider.  Please feel free to talk with us about these options during your first visit.

Insurance Benefits

Although we do not work directly with any insurance companies, we are happy to help you get your maximum possible benefits from them.  Because contemporary health insurance policies vary tremendously, we simply cannot keep track of all of them.  Also, many policies cover some of our services (such as diagnostic interviews, psychological testing, and psychotherapy), but not others (such as biofeedback, neurofeedback, or neurostimulation).  Like many other clinicians in recent years, we made the difficult decision to follow a Direct Care model and not participate in provider panels or other forms of managed care.  However, many health insurance policies do allow for reimbursement of our services as out-of-network providers.  Their requirements for this also vary and some require different degrees of documentation.  (For example, some companies are now requiring their members to provide Proof of Payment in the form of a credit card charge slip, canceled check, cash withdrawal slip, or bank account statement.  Invoices alone may not be sufficient.  Check with your carrier to be sure of what you need.)

We are happy to provide Superbill statements as well as HCFA 1500 claim forms to you, at your request.  We also suggest that you use our structured interview (“Getting the Most From Your Insurance”) in our New Client Information Packet, as this should help you get a better idea of what will be covered.  While we are happy to provide you with needed information to the extent possible, please understand that we are unable to advocate on your behalf with your carrier.  This does not mean you are all on your own, though!

Flex Spending Account and Health Saving Accounts

FSA (Flexible Spending Accounts) and HSA (Health Saving Accounts) are tax-favored programs offered by employers, which allow their employees to pay for eligible, out-of pocket heath care expenses. As with insurance policies, HSA and FSA vary a great deal in their coverage and enrollment criteria but mental health expenses, including biofeedback, are typically covered by these plans. Once you have verified your eligibility to use your HSA/FSA for our services, we will gladly configure financial arrangements for the best use of your benefits. Please note that you may need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from one of our licensed professionals (usually Dr. Packard or Dr. Judd) or from your physician, prior to commencing services. We are committed to excellence in customer service, and maximizing insurance, FSA or HSA benefits is one way we can assist our clients. Most FSA/HAS programs can be used for Remote Home Training and the purchasing of neurostimulation and other devices.
